If you’re new to the survivalist lifestyle and you want to continue to learn how to make it during a disaster, click here to read my article on what is the best way to purify water.

This model is made out of high-quality 1050D nylon. It’s also coated with PUX2 for top of the line water resistance. This material isn’t heavy, but it’s incredibly durable and definitely the type of tough material you’ll want for a bag that you’ll need to use day in and day out on the road.

I noted that while the material feels tough, it’s not heavy, so it helps to keep the pack’s weight low. The stitching is also top-notch and is used all over the bag, including the pockets and storage compartments.

The bag is equipped with heavy-duty YKK self-repairing zippers, which have a reputation for their flexibility and durability. These zippers are designed to flex when the pack is full to the gills, as opposed to straining under the amount of weight and pressure placed on them.

Storage Spaces

The pack is loaded with several storage compartments, which will not only allow you to sort your gear but secure it and prevent it from moving around when you’re out and about. The pack’s main compartment measures in at twenty inches in height, twelve and a half inches in length and eight inches deep with a total of thirty-seven liters of space.

Inside the large main compartment of the pack, you’ll find a total of three mesh pockets that you can use to organize your gear. One of the pockets is also equipped with a pullcord which is perfect for smaller items.

Located at the top of the pack are two bookend pockets which can also be used to store smaller items that may otherwise get lost in the main compartment.

The eyewear pocket is lined with fleece, as is the zippered exterior pocket which is located at the back of the bag and makes the perfect stash pocket.

On each side of the pack, you’ll find two more pockets with zippers. These are rather large and can be used to store important documents and maps.

Drainage Grommets

The dual drainage grommets are designed to release water and moisture, in the event that water makes its way into your pack.

This model features several areas that are equipped with heavy padding, which will help to minimize the amount of pressure that’s placed on your back. The pack is also designed to promote airflow between the pack and your back so you remain cool and dry.

The shoulder straps are heavily padded and encourage longer use. They’re made out of Duraflex hardware and closed cell foam for ultimate comfort. The upper straps are designed to compress the bag and allow you to squeeze the pack if it’s not loaded up. The yoke harness provides even weight distribution, while the attachment points on the straps allow you to add a waist belt if you’re in need of more back support.

Advantages and Disadvantages

  • Heavily padded shoulder straps
  • Plenty of storage compartments and pockets
  • Made out of tough nylon for improved durability
  • YKK self-repairing zippers
  • Designed to promote airflow
  • PUX2 coating

  • Bag is not waterproof, only water-resistant

Rush 74 Vs. Gearrific Tactical Backpack

Right off the bat, you’ll notice that the tactical backpack by Gearrific is available at only a fraction of the price that this pack is going for. It also comes with plenty of extras, including twenty-five emergency survival items, a hydration bladder, and a waterproof utility case.  Like this pack, it’s also made out of nylon, but it only comes in at 600D, while this pack is rated at 1050D, which means this pack is much more durable. However, if you’re on a tight budget, then the Gearrific model is a great option and one that comes with some nice extras that you’ll definitely need to rely on in the event of an emergency.

Conclusion and Rating

Product Rating: (4.5/5)

5.11 Tactical Rush24The Rush 24 is one of the best survival packs on the market, not because it comes with a ton of free gear, but because the pack’s priority is durability, not cheap freebies. This is definitely a bag that’s designed to last and a pack you can rely on to keep your gear safe and secure when disaster strikes. I gave this pack a rating of four and a half stars out of five.
